The mission of the Center is to develop a "one stop shopping" model that offers clinical services and health education to all women across the lifespan.

The Tulane Xavier National Center of Excellence in Women's Health was recognized as a National Center of Excellence by the Department of Health and Human Services, Office on Women's Health in October 1998. As one of eighteen such Centers in the Country, and the only Center in the deep south, the Center serves as a model to provide an array of integrated clinical services across the country. The Center further emphasizes research in women's health, community collaboration, education, and advancement of women in medicine and science. Tulane and Xavier are long-standing partners and join an extensive network of community partners including, but not limited to, Dillard University Division of Nursing, Loyola School of Nursing, and over 30 community based organizations.

The goal of the TUXCOE Clinical Care Center, located in the Tulane University Hospital and Clinic, is to offer a unique environment for the extensive delivery of clinical services to women in a "one-stop shopping model". The Center provides clinical healthcare services to women with a major emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention throughout the lifespan.

The Center provides continuing medical education for physicians through sponsored lectures in the community as well as the website and direct telephone access for consultative/patient referral service options. Future programs intended to integrate community physicians with the Center include telemedicine, mobile clinical services via a mobile van and ancillary equipment.
